Gondola operation and the Alpine Botanical Gardens closed on October 20th for the 2024 green season.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of our guests who visited us during the summer season. We hope that you enjoyed the nature of Hakuba Goryu to the fullest, whether it was admiring the precious alpine plants, climbing the Northern Alps, or enjoying the magnificent mountain scenery.
We are currently preparing for the winter season, and we hope to see you again soon.
Highlights
Alpine Botanical Garden
Located at 1,515m elevation, over 300 species and two million alpine plants bloom between June and October. Discover rare plants such as the enchanting Himalayan Blue Poppy, the "Queen of alpine plants" Dicentra peregrina, the iconic edelweiss and so on.
Join a guided flora tour for an immersive journey into alpine wonders.
Entry to the botanical garden is free. To get there, ride the 8-person gondola from the base station, a scenic ride which takes only 8 minutes.
Restaurants
The summit restaurant offers Western dishes and sweets with panoramic Northern Alps views. Visit before or after trekking or botanical garden walks. Don’t miss our specialty soft serve!
At the base, try our hand-made Shinshu soba and Hakuba galettes. The Hakuba galette is topped with local ingredients such as freshwater salmon, Hakuba pork and local vegetables. Pair it with the cold brew coffee made with spring water from our mountains.
There is also an organic café catering to vegans, offering meals with seasonal vegetables and homemade gluten-free baked goods.
Shopping
As one of Hakuba’s largest souvenir shops, Escal offers a diverse selection to elevate your shopping experience.

Gondola
The gondola to the Alpine Botanical Garden and Restaurant 360 runs every day between 22 June and 20 October during the 2024 summer season.
Various hiking trails are also accessible from the gondola summit station. There is also an observation deck, offering breathtaking 360-degree view of Mt. Goryu-dake, the Northen Alps. On clear days, you can even see Mt. Fuji!

Hotspring and Sauna
The base center Escal Plaza is equipped with a hot spring facility with a sauna and cold bath. Open daily until the end of the season. Perfect for a rejuvenating dip after exploring the gardens and mountains!

Escal Garden
Located right outside the base centre, Escal garden is full of flowers and plants of the season.
The garden is open to everyone wether you've come to enjoy nature or just passing by, feel free to visit!
Dogs are welcome too.

As part of our journey towards becoming a truly sustainable resort, all of our facilities, including lifts, gondolas, the base center, and staff dormitories, are now powered by renewable energy. Additionally, we have partnered with Protect Our Winters Japan (POW JAPAN) and joined the Sustainable Resort Alliance (SRA), a platform launched in December 2023 to promote zero-carbon and sustainable ski resorts nationwide.
