At an elevation of over 1,500 meters, the botanical garden offers a refreshing escape from the heat, making it perfect for a pleasant stroll.
Throughout the garden, you'll find plenty of purple blooms like Scabiosa and Gentian.
Come and enjoy the last blooms before snowfall.
We also recommend trekking to Mount Kotoomi for some fresh mountain air and stunning views of the autumn leaves.
Highlights
Alpine Botanical Gardens
Ride the gondola to 1,515m elevation, witness over 300 species and two million alpine blooms, join a guided flora tour for an immersive journey into alpine wonders. Dine with 360 degrees panorama views at the mountaintop restaurant.
Entry to the botanical garden is free. To get there, ride the 8-person gondola from the base station, a scenic ride which takes only 8 minutes.
Fall Season
Take in the vibrant hues of fall foliage, renowned for Hakuba's famed three-tiered autumn leaves. The special slow gondola ride welcomes pets. Immerse yourself in perfect hiking weather, in the seasonal beauty and witness the enchanting first snowfall.
Gondola
The gondola to the Alpine Botanical Garden and Restaurant 360 runs every day between 22 June and 20 October during the 2024 summer season.
Various hiking trails are also accessible from the gondola summit station. There is also an observation deck, offering breathtaking 360-degree view of Mt. Goryu-dake, the Northen Alps. On clear days, you can even see Mt. Fuji!

Your gateway to Mount Goryu—one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains. From serene strolls with alpine vistas to challenging hikes. With various trekking options, everyone can experience the breathtaking beauty of the Northern Japanese Alps.
Hotspring and Sauna
The base center Escal Plaza is equipped with a hot spring facility with a sauna and cold bath. Open daily until the end of the season. Perfect for a rejuvenating dip after exploring the gardens and mountains!
